Betrayal at House on the Hill: A visit part 1 (12/14/2014)

BaHotH-01Two orphans, Brandon and Zoe, run up to Father Rhinehardt telling him wild stories about strange happenings the house on the hill.  “Nonsense!” exclaimed Father.  He lectures them for an hour about God fearing and blasphemy.   However, the children’s imagination could not be erased by Rhinehardt’s repeating thumping on the table.  Frustrated by his ineffective piousness, he takes each child by the hand and escorts them to the mansion at dusk.

Father Rhinehardt, 62 yo
Speed: 3.2, Might 2.2, Sanity 6, Knowledge 4

Brandon Jaspers, 12 yo
Speed 4.2, Might 4, Sanity 4, Knowledge 3.2

Zoe Ingstrom, 8 yo
Speed: 4.4, Might 3.2, Sanity 5.1, Knowledge 3

The group stands in the Entrance Hall.  The front door is to the east and the foyer west.

Turn 1
Rhinehardt,
steps north exploring the Charred Room (omen).  Gains a Madman companion.  Gains 2 Might (4.2) but loses 1 Sanity (5.2).  With (1) omen, he passes the Haunt roll.

Brandon,
steps west into the foyer and north exploring the Game Room (event).   A Moment of Hope.  Something feels right about this room and it is blessed.

Zoe,
steps south exploring the Junk Room (omen).  He finds a Spear.  With (2) omens, she passes the Haunt roll.

Turn 2
Rhinehardt,
continues north and explores the Coal Chute and slides into the Basement Landing.   He steps through north doorway into the Crypt (event).   Out of breath, he loses 1 Sanity (5.2).  Smoke fills the Crypt.

Brandon,
explores north into the Kitchen (omen).  He finds a Skull.  With (3) omens, he passes the Haunt roll.

Zoe,
trips on clutter of junk losing 1 Speed (4.3) explores west into the Organ Room (event).  She sees a Creepy Puppet that jumps at her with a tiny spear.   The puppet attacks with a (4).  Zoe defends with her spear with a (5) and survives.

Turn 3
Rhinehardt: Speed: 3.2, Might 2.2, Sanity 5.2, Knowledge 4
Steps south into the Basement Landing explores west into stairs that lead up to the ground level Foyer.

Brandon: Speed 4.2, Might 4, Sanity 4, Knowledge 3.2
Steps west and explores the Dining Room (omen).   He finds a Crystal Ball.  With (4) omens, he survives the Haunt roll.

Zoe: Speed: 4.3, Might 3.2, Sanity 5.1, Knowledge 3
Returns north to the Foyer joining Father Rhinehardt before stepping west to the Grand Staircase.  She goes upstairs exploring the Upstairs Landing.  She chooses to step south to the Vault (event).   She runs into webs that cling.  She breaks free and gains 1 Might (4).  She tries to break into the vault but doesn’t nearly have enough knowledge how to do so.

Turn 4
Rhinehardt: Speed: 3.2, Might 2.2, Sanity 5.2, Knowledge 4
Goes upstairs the Landing and explores west into the Conservatory (event).  Unknowing to anyone, the basement walls are covered with a mist of human and inhuman faces.  However, no one sees them.

Brandon: Speed 4.2, Might 4, Sanity 4, Knowledge 3.2
Explores south into the Bloody Room (item).  He finds a Lucky Stone.

Zoe: Speed: 4.3, Might 3.2, Sanity 5.1, Knowledge 3
Exits the Vault to the landing and explores east into the Mystic Elevator.  She ends up to the west of the Charred Room and steps inside next to Brandon.

Turn 5
Rhinehardt: Speed: 3.2, Might 2.2, Sanity 5.2, Knowledge 4
Retreats to the Vault and fails to open it.  He doesn’t have a prayer opening the vault, snarling at his lack of knowledge.

Brandon: Speed 4.2, Might 4, Sanity 4, Knowledge 3.2
Turns east past the Game Room and Charred Room explores the passage east into the Library (event).  Brandon hears Disquieting Sounds but gains 1 Sanity (5).   He stays in the Library and gains 1 Knowledge (5).

Zoe: Speed: 4.3, Might 3.2, Sanity 5.1, Knowledge 3
Heads to the Coal Chute and drops into the Basement Landing.  She explores east into the Chasm.
