The trailer had won me over.
I was all set to watch Inferno, the third Tom Hanks movie from the novels of Dan Brown.   After all, I like Tom Hanks.  I sort of like cerebral, conspiratorial riddle movies.   When I walked past my local cinema I spotted its poster.  I was all set to make time that weekend.  But I made the mistake of looking it up on the Internet.

What’s more fascinating?  Knowing what someone thought of a film or why they didn’t bother to watch it?  What do you think is more important to the studios?  Your opinion or your money?  A Disney film that reunites Johnny Depp with Pirates of the Caribbean director, Gore Verbinski, seems like a good bet.  The producers should be laughing to the bank.   But they’re not.  After the first 28 days of its’ release, The Lone Ranger has pulled in a little over $85 million with a $215 million budget.  To give you an idea how much of a struggle it is, Despicable Me 2 made $90 million in the first three.  Introducing a new category of articles, here is a retrospective why I didn’t bother.  Why I didn’t give The Lone Ranger a chance.
