A story about spite, Scooby Doo Where Are You pits Mystery Inc. on a movie set chasing down the infamous Ape Man, threatening the film production of Epi-Center Film Company. Here are 5 things you may have missing watching “Never Ape an Ape Man”.
Number 1: New producers take over the troubled film
With many walking off the set, “The Ape Man of Forbidden Mountain”, is falling behind schedule and budget. In a matter of hours after star, Candy Mint, breaks her contract Starbright Films take over and posters are immediately plastered through out the studio sets.
Number 2: Who built the secret tunnel?
When the gang find a tuft of gorilla hair at the bottom of a wine casket, they discover it is a doorway into a dark tunnel. Leading to the trailer park on the other side, Fred theorized it was not built by the studio. While this leaves only the Ape Man as the next, best suspect we feel Carl couldn’t do this alone and so quickly. This is a mystery that is left unsolved.
Number 3: The star parrot is left to starve
Abandoned on a table in a studio set, Scooby discovers a talking parrot. It is left in a tight cage, no food, water, or even a newspaper during a time where all the cast and crew have quit. With a chance to rescue it, Scooby, Shaggy, and Velma get distracted by a stuffed gorilla on wheels. In no time, they continue on their ape hunt and the bird is left behind and forgotten.
Number 4: The motive? Carl wanted to be Candy!
Why did Carl do it? As director, Mr. Maxwell opines, Carl was angry he was not given the lead part. As we learn, the star of “Ape Man of Forbidden Mountain” is Candy Mint. The episode takes an unexpected, if not awkward, twist. It begins to make sense how Carl tries to knock Candy into the ravine. Carl wanted to be on the other side of the bridge wearing a cloth bikini!
Number 5: Carl is an unusual villain
Carl is an unusual as he is the first villain who is not unmasked. His identity is revealed through a photograph putting on his mask. Furthermore, he has no alter-ego. Carl, playing the Ape Man plays the Ape Man. Although, he isn’t the last, he is the first to commit crimes and mischief out of spite not profit. He may also be the first to leave a half-eaten hamburger on the floor. We always knew Hollywood actors were a bit nutty.
