The Shining: Luggage phantoms,
discusses the ghostly figures who prey on the Torrance family possessions when they arrive.  Jack Torrance waits patiently reading his Playgirl magazine having finished his lunch.  Over his left shoulder are his family’s clothes and possessions, meant to last them through the winter.  While many things can be said about this one, simple scene, let’s discuss the luggage phantoms who haunt the family as soon as they arrive.

We discuss two extremely different portrayals of the make believe character, Tony, from The Shining.   While the television mini-series is literal and faithful to the book, Stanley Kubrick’s vision for Danny’s precognitive phantom was a fascinating gamble.

A review after watching The Shining for the first time, devout fans of Stanley Kubrick will not like what they read.

When someone asks “Would I enjoy watching Stanley’s Kubrick’s The Shining“, I’m at a loss for an answer.  I would have had to ask another question, “Are you looking to be entertained?” or “Are you looking for an adaptation or re-imagining Stephen King’s novel?”  I certainly remembered my first viewing and what I was looking for.   I also remember being disappointed.
