Scooby Doo: Foul Play in Funland

Scooby Doo, Where are You! episode “Foul Play in Funland”,
visits an amusement park off-hours.  It’s a wild imagination many of shared of what a theme park is like when the lights are off and you have the whole place to yourselves.  When the bright lights suddenly kick on at “Funland” late night, Fred sees an invitation to trespass while Scooby and Shaggy take advantage of all-you-can-eat hotdogs.

The villain, the mystery, and the technology

Charlie the Robot has impressive strength and speed. He patrols Funland at night. He is also very good with exact change.

Why are the lights on at Funland?

Not quite sentient, Charlie is capable of many talents and has keen awareness for survival. He enjoys juggling, swimming, and a ride on the coaster.

Sarah Jenkins destroys a Nobel Prize invention with a pair of garden shears.

Unanswered questions of curiosity

Shaggy steals hot dogs.

Shaggy steals dolls.

The magnet is absurdly ridiculous from the man who invented 1969 version of The Terminator.

In the year 1969, the future of vacuum tubes was super sizing them.

Final words and observations

As a comedy,  “Funland” doesn’t work.  However, it is oddly effective as a thriller.  With determination equal to The Terminator, Charlie the Robot chased Scooby relentless and without remorse.  When cornered, it showed a will to survive.  “Funland” is rare as it was without a crime or malice other than the sibling rivalry of Sarah sabotaging her brother’s fantastic technology.  “Foul Play in Funland” opens the door to wildly extravagant technology and reaches new heights in later episodes.
